Pack sizes: buy in packs, sell in pieces

A box of 10 bought and sold by the box - or by the piece - at the right price.

Steps

  1. Switch it on: Settings โ€บ Inventory options โ€บ Packaging - Use pack sizes.
  2. On the item (Inventory โ€บ the item โ€บ Pack size): the pack's name (box, carton, dozen), the pieces in a pack (e.g. 10), the pack selling price (e.g. 950 - blank: the piece price ร— 10), the pack purchase price (e.g. 500) and the pack's own barcode.
  3. On a purchase, sale or quotation line, choose the item, then pcs or box (10) next to the quantity. The price follows: a box at the pack price, a piece at the piece price. The quantity is boxes when you choose the box.
  4. Stock is always kept in pieces: 5 boxes received are 50 pieces in stock, costed at the box price รท 10 (500 รท 10 = 50 each); 2 boxes sold take 20 pieces out.
  5. At the POS a pack is its own tile (e.g. "Blue pen - box of 10") and scanning the pack's barcode rings up a box at the pack price; the piece barcode a piece.

Good to know

  • A pack line is priced exactly: a dozen at 1,000 is 1,000 (not 12 ร— 83.33). The piece price is shown for reference.
  • A customer's price list prices the piece: their pack is the list price ร— the pack size.
  • Documents copied on (order โ†’ delivery โ†’ invoice, GRN โ†’ invoice) stay in packs while whole packs are left; a part pack goes on in pieces.
  • The document and its print show "2 box ร— 10 = 20 pcs". Serial-numbered items have no packs.
